In Again

Trust's in the hospital again. Probably only for a night, but still...some of us are beginning to think that handful of colds he had during his first year were only a hallucination. Ever since then we haven't had a cold without the obligatory visit to the hospital. Also known as the Night of 5,000 Explanations.

See, the problem is we can never manage to get the same doctor twice. So when Trust suddenly gets croupy and we have to rush him in while he's turning blue (because no one is ever going to give us the medicine that keeps him from turning blue!), someone always has to have a friendly tussle with the ER doc who wants to intubate ("Doctor, if you do that we'll be here for three weeks"), the doctor who doesn't want to overuse Vapo, so wants to stretch the time to 4 hours or longer ("When he's like this, we need to use at least two doses of Vapo two hours apart before we can stretch to four"); the tech who wants to order x-rays ("just to rule out pneumonia"); and of course the person who wants to do blood tests and IVs because "He's really doing bad, ma'am." As if Mom is too dumb to notice Trust's turning blue and not only that, she's not serious about the fifteen other trips we've already successfully gone through with exactly the same problem.

Not to be outdone, there's always the suggestion of "You should really think about getting xyz specialist to examine him for xyz situation."

I'm so glad those guys are there because otherwise we'd've lost Trust several times over; but it's too bad we can't just walk into a hospital and hand them Trust's personalized user manual that says in black and white "follow all directions and do not tamper with routine!"
