Our nine-month record appears to have been broken.
Ever since the end of December, 2006, we have had no contagious illnesses in our family. We haven't gone this long at a stretch since before Trust was born (2004). This has been good for us in a lot of ways.
The first, obviously, is that we all feel much better when we aren't currently fending off the latest batch of infectious germs. (Anyone WANT to volunteer for a case of the sniffles? Anyone who does should be informed that the DVD player is only in use for reluctant sufferers: volunteering may remove all rights therein.)
The second is that our life is a lot less disordered when we aren't constantly having to stay away from other families because we've got something contagious. ("Sorry we can't visit, guys, but we've got someone with a sore throat and you know what happens if we transmit anything to you - it could be New Year's before we see you again!")
The third is that Trust has not had to spend any time in the hospital in nearly a year (though he hasn't forgotten the hospital, either: for such an easy-going guy, he has a real aversion to going anywhere near the place).
The fourth is that Mom hasn't worried herself sick that Trust might get sick. ("Nope, he just sneezed once. I think he's okay now.")
As I said, however, we may have to see how our illness-free year has affected us. Mark has come down with what appears to be a cold. He has had it since Tuesday evening and no one else is showing any signs of getting anything; but we are praying every night that Trust's little windpipe has done a lot of growing and we won't be running him in while he turns blue because he got croupy.
I can't tell whether I should pray that Trust gets sick and Mom finds out he'll be okay or to pray he won't get sick so we don't have to find out if he's grown out of the turning-blue tendency yet!
